Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA)

The Malibu High School Parent Teacher Student Association (MHS PTSA) is a unit of the California State PTA and National PTA organization. Advocating for all school children is the core of its mission.

At MHS, the PTSA has an annual budget of roughly $115,000 that is underwritten by the Malibu High Shark Fund. Additional monies are raised at the Annual Fall Fundraiser and by the eScrip program that uses local grocery store loyalty programs to raise supplemental funds. The MHS PTSA provides financial and volunteer support for dozens of academic programs.

PTSA provides financial support for classroom supplies, field trips, college and career services, SAT/ACT test prep, science and technology programs, bi-lingual support, CPR certification, the library, the copy center, the website, the directory, emergency supplies, parent education, family and multicultural events, staff appreciation, student counseling programs, student honors and graduation ceremonies, senior scholarships and legislative support.

PTSA provides thousands of hours of volunteer support to MHS each year. Volunteers organize Get Your Stuff Days, Back To School Nights, and many events which provide opportunities for parents and students to meet others and become involved in the school. PTSA volunteers work in the copy center and nurse's office, participate in Parent Eyes (monitoring campus activity) and chaperone school events. We coordinate the "Reflections" art program, "Walk It! Bike It! Pool It! Day," Red Ribbon Week activities and student enrichment programs such as "Every 15 Minutes." Volunteers provide hospitality for student meetings, parent coffees, association meetings, teacher luncheons, awards ceremonies and many other campus events. PTSA also creates and sponsor the website and the MHS Student Directory to assist in school-to-family communication.

The MHS PTSA holds six association meetings per year, generally occurring on the third Thursday of the month in the MHS Library. All are welcome, though voting privileges are limited to PTSA members. Membership is open to all parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, students and supporters of Malibu High School. Dues are $10.00 per member annually. Dues primarily support California PTA, National PTA and insurance costs.
